Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Whisk the batch

In a large bowl, whisk together all the ingredients until combined and the mocha sauce is fully dissolved. The amounts above make the middle batch, for 4 to 6 servings. For 2 to 3 servings, use 1 cup half and half, 2 cups black coffee, and ⅓ cup mocha sauce. For 6 to 8 servings, use 2½ cups half and half, 5 cups black coffee, and 1 cup mocha sauce.

  2. Chill the mixture

For best results, chill the liquid before adding it to the unit. Cold coffee is essential; warm coffee melts the slush as it forms.

  3. Pour into the vessel

Pour the mixture into the vessel.

  4. Select FRAPPÉ

Select FRAPPÉ. The preset starts at the default temperature for ideal texture. For your ideal texture, use the Temperature Control setting to adjust.

  5. Serve topped

Once the frozen drink reaches the right temperature, the unit will beep three times. Serve immediately, topped with whipped cream and chocolate sauce as desired, and dispense within 30 minutes of the preset ending to avoid a foamy output.

Where the calories live

The mocha sauce brings the biggest share of the calories here, about 39 percent of the batch, with the half and half next in line.

The bright spot

Most of the flavor rides on the mocha sauce, and the numbers stay in treat territory rather than meal territory.

Want a lighter pour

Pour a smaller glass and top it with sparkling water. The flavor stretches and the landing gets gentler.

Frequently asked questions

What are the three batch sizes?

For 2 to 3 servings: 1 cup half and half, 2 cups black coffee, and ⅓ cup mocha sauce. For 4 to 6 servings: 2 cups half and half, 4 cups coffee, and ¾ cup mocha sauce. For 6 to 8 servings: 2½ cups half and half, 5 cups coffee, and 1 cup mocha sauce.

Why serve it within 30 minutes?

With the Frappé preset, the frozen drink turns foamy if it sits too long after the preset ends. Pour within 30 minutes for the thickest texture.

Can I use espresso instead of black coffee?

Yes. Brew it strong, chill it completely, and keep the same total volume. The mocha flavor lands deeper and the caffeine kicks harder.

What is mocha sauce, exactly?

A pourable chocolate coffee sauce, thicker than chocolate syrup and made for drinks. Chocolate sauce is the closest stand in if that is what you have.
