Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Pick your batch and pour

For 2 to 3 servings, use 1¼ cups orange juice and 1¾ cups sparkling wine. For 4 to 6 servings, use the amounts in the ingredient list. For 6 to 8 servings, use 3⅓ cups orange juice and 4⅔ cups sparkling wine. Chill both bottles before you start for the fastest freeze, then pour everything into the vessel, keeping the liquid at or below the max fill line.

  2. Run Spiked Slush

Select SPIKED SLUSH. The preset starts at the temperature judged best for the texture, and the temperature control lets you nudge it colder for a firmer freeze or warmer for a softer one. Depending on the batch, plan on 30 to 60 minutes.

  3. Serve it bubbly

When the drink reaches its best texture the machine beeps three times. Serve immediately, while the slush is still bright and sparkling.

Where the calories live

The sparkling wine brings the biggest share of the calories here, about 71 percent of the batch, with the orange juice next in line.

About the alcohol

The pour is part of the flavor and part of the math: about 63 percent of the calories in every glass come from the alcohol itself.

Want a lighter pour

Pour a smaller glass and top it with sparkling water. The flavor stretches and the landing gets gentler.

Frequently asked questions

What are the three batch sizes?

For 2 to 3 servings: 1¼ cups (300 ml) orange juice and 1¾ cups (415 ml) sparkling wine. For 4 to 6 servings: 2½ cups (590 ml) orange juice and 3½ cups (830 ml) sparkling wine. For 6 to 8 servings: 3⅓ cups (790 ml) orange juice and 4⅔ cups (1.1 L) sparkling wine.

Which sparkling wine should I use?

Champagne, Prosecco, or Cava all work. Pick a dry bottle you would happily drink on its own, since freezing concentrates whatever is in the glass and there is nowhere for an off flavor to hide.

Can I make it a mocktail?

Yes. Swap the sparkling wine for sparkling white grape juice or sparkling cider, run the SLUSH program instead, and set the temperature control so 8 bars are lit.

Any cleanup tips?

Leave the preset running until every bit of the drink has been dispensed. An empty vessel rinses clean far more easily than one with frozen mimosa still coating the sides.
